Digital Photos

These days an increasing number of customers are supplying their photos via a digital camera.  This is a great innovation for colour and black & white photos being reproduced in a promotional brochure. A 2x mega pixel camera will give you high quality pics if you are not looking to reproduce at poster size. They are ideal for 1/4 page size in an A4 document.

In order to obtain good quality printed pictures the setting requires to be at "best -1800x1200."  This means your pics will have to be saved on CD, zip disc or another storage device.  Floppy discs will only accept 1.1mb and your "best-setting" pics will usually exceed this.  If you are doing this on a regular basis, it may be worth investing in a CD Burner if you have an older system.  Alternatively, a brand-new system with in-built CD/DVD Burner starts from approx. $800 complete with more processing speed and hard-drive storage then you are ever likely to need.

What is a PDF?

The PDF (Portable Document Format) has become the industry standard for sharing document files across different platforms (PC & Macintosh) and programs.  To read a PDF on your computer, you will need to have Acrobat Reader installed.  This is freely available from the Adobe website. You will then be able to view and print a document in colour or black and white, irrespective of the program the document was created in.  We regularly use PDFs to email proof layouts of artwork to clients who take advantage of this technology.  This drastically reduces the time taken to check and improve multi-colour documents, enabling a smoother process for all concerned.
